Do you have many full time residents at Carefree?
There are about 130 full time residents. Our full time population is increasing every year. The ages at Carefree are between 40-85, so we have women working full time and part time.
What is the temperature in the summer?
The temperature stays at 90-91 degrees all summer. Humidity goes up and down. We have a shower most afternoons for about 15 minutes; then the sun comes back out. We do our exercise and yard work early in the day; movies, reading, lunch and inside chores mid day and out to the pool or dinner late afternoon. The summer is a much slower pace, allowing our residents to get re-acquainted with each other.
What is the quality of health care in the Fort Myers area? Nearest hospital?
The Lee Memorial Health System has been rated in the top 100 hospitals in the nation.
Lee Memorial Hospital is located about 8 miles from Carefree and Cape Coral Hospital about 6 miles. We have a wealth of information about doctors, surgeons, and other health care providers. You can feel safe making your transition.
What about shopping?
DelTura Plaza is about 5 minutes north of us. There is a Publix grocery store, liquor store, doctor’s office, hairdresser and physical therapist, as well as optometry service. Walmart, Kmart, Home Depot and Lowes are nearby as well.
Are you near the beach?
We are about 45 minutes away from Fort Myers Beach, and Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel.
Are there employment opportunities at Carefree or in the area?
Carefree has a maintenance staff. These are part-time positions in this area, although there are no open positions at this time. The Clubhouse has part-time office staff to handle administrative duties. The Carefree jobs are sought after quickly, but once again, from time to time there is an opening.
If you have medical or nursing skills, there are many opportunities for employment. Education positions are needed as well. Skilled trades are needed for the growth boom going on in this area.

Yes.
Do you manage the property or have a management company?
Carefree Association and Clubhouse has hired Benson's Inc. to handle our day-to-day maintenance concerns. We also have a Finance Committee for both the Association and the Clubhouse. These committees are in close contact with the management company to insure our money is being spent wisely. As a result, we have been able to keep the dues low, and the service high. We have good, sound reserves set aside for future repairs and maintenance.
Is there financing available for new homes, re-sales, and RV lots?
Yes, there are various programs available to finance your property.
What about property taxes?
Lee County tax is based on the market value of the real estate and is re-appraised each year. Normally the taxing authorities use 90% of the value and the millage rate currently is $18.77 per $1000. If you become a Florida resident, you can homestead your property to insure your taxes will not rise above a certain percent each year.
What other fees do we pay?
The Resort on Carefree Boulevard Association fee for 2007 is $224 per quarter. This covers lawn mowing, streets, lights, trash removal, environment and grounds responsibilities for the conservation areas, etc. The Carefree Clubhouse Corporation (private club) fee is $279 per quarter. The total monthly fees are approximately $169.00 for 2007.
